We just love Montepulciano! If you haven’t tried it before, it’s in between a Shiraz and a Cabernet Sauvignon, it’s rich and luscious, perfect for steaks and bbq’d meat and nights around a campfire. Or if you aren’t the outdoorsy kind, then this is a wine to match with chilled vibes, hard cheese and a hot date!
The grapes were hand sorted and then fermented on skins for more than two weeks with lots of gentle plunging and pump overs to bring out those delicious blue fruit characters and delicate florals but not too hard as otherwise the tannins would have been way too apparent and we would have had to leave it in barrel for years before they calmed down again! After enough time post ferment on skins, we pressed the grapes to get all the rest of the complexity and nuance out of the skins before maturing the wine in old oak hogsheads for 10 months.
