Tread softly and see rose petals blushing and cheeky cherries winking from the autumn leaves below. Feel the gentle grip of luscious fruits that spin you inside a merry-go-round of perfume and spice, leaving you breathless, satiated and yet lining up for more.

The grapes were sourced from the Malakoff Vineyard in the southern end of the Landsborough Valley in the Pyrenees, Victoria. Cool southerly breezes flow through the vineyard enabling an extended ripening period, allowing the grapes to develop intense flavours and complexity.

The grapes were harvested by hand in the early morning, and after transportation to the winery the grapes were hand sorted, destemmed and the whole berries were tipped into an open vat fermenter for cold maceration before spontaneous fermentation. The wine was gently plunged and pumped over during fermentation and post ferment the wines stayed on skins for another 2 weeks to soften the tannins. After pressing and racking, the wines were matured in old oak barriques for 10 months before bottling without filtration or fining.

What do you see when you look at me, asked the bear. Am I a growling beast to be feared or just a rumble tumble of leaves giggling with adventure.

A little sappy and spicy, quite minty, with rhubarb, strawberry, and a sweet tobacco edge. Medium-bodied, sour cherry and orange, light dusty tannin leaves a firm imprint, and there’s tangy amaro-laced flavour on a finish of modest length.

WinePilot - 92 Points

The Pyrenees has always been a happy hunting ground for Nebbiolo with its continental climate and cool nights vital to helping this particular grape shine. This wine, however, is a slightly unusual take on Nebbiolo. Forget the bold tannic reds, this is a pretty and stylish example which still showcases nebbiolo’s charm.

It’s a light cherry red to start, similar to a deeply coloured rosé, a theme continued by its pretty watermelon, potpourri and spicy aromas. The wine is then crisp, light-bodied and perfumed with raspberry and floral flavours supported by silky tannins with a lingering finish. It is an early drinking style well suited to food and lightly chilled would be superb with a smorgasbord of charcuterie and cheese on a balmy Summer afternoon.

It's spicy and savoury with lovely sweet berry notes, showing dark plum, cured meat, mixed spice and warm mushroom characters on the nose, followed by a gently weighted palate that's finely textured and lingering. Well structured by fine grainy tannins, finishing firm and classically dry. At its best: now to 2027.
